Bad Keyboard/Mouse Port (P4C800-E DLX) ?

Can't seem to figure this one out and the problem is starting to occur more frequently. Have a P4C800-E Deluxe Rev 2.0 thats connected to a wireless Chieftec Keyboard/Optical mouse. The receiver is plugged into both the keyboard and mouse ports on the motherboard. During normal operations - system is up and running there never seems to be a problem with either the mouse or keyboard but when the system is put into Standby mode and left for periods of more than a few hours, pressing either the mouse or keyboard will not cause the system to wake up.

Tried the following without any success to get the back up before completely powering off the system (turning off power supply)

1. Pressed the power button on case - caused the system to wake up but keyboard and mouse weren't functional

2. Resync'd the mouse and keyboard - still no go! Also the activity light on the receiver does not flash when a key is pressed or mouse is moved.

3. Rebooted machine - this is where its a little strange - Bios returns no keyboard found and will continue to boot.

4. Powered off system and unplugged keyboard/mouse and reattached. Restarted without any problems and keyboard/mouse were again functional.

5. In one instance when I had another failure I opened the mouse/keyboard and receiver and unplugged the cable connector to try and force the receiver to startup thinking that the receiver was failing. When I reattached it its lights all lit up as it was booting but it still didn't work.

My question: When a mouse/keyboard is unplugged or a connection is lost will the motherboards ports just stop working until a repower or will they poll until some is connected to them? My thinking here is that there is some problem with the receiver that makes the motherboard think the mouse/keyboard has been unplugged.

Finally, with the information that I provided do you think its the motherboard or the mouse/keyboard receiver. Returning the motherboard and getting a new one won't be a problem since I can get a swap through Newegg as its still under warranty. The receiver's internals look pretty bombproof but the board does contain a few capacitors and IC's that I guess could fail.

My System

Make sure the keyboard jumper is set on pins 2 & 3 if you want this feature to work (pg 2-19 in the manual) it will also require a power supply that can at leat 1A on the +5vsb lead. You may also want to make sure that the function is enabled in the bios (see pg 4-29/4-30)

PS ...and never unplug or plug in any keyboard or mouse to the mobo while it is running, (or anything else for that matter or you may "fry" the mobo).

Yep everything has been set correctly and its been running fine without any problems for months. Symptoms just starting appearing a few weeks ago. Only happens (if at all) once a week and only when the system is in standby for long periods of time. Whats a little strange is that if you do a soft reboot - without completely turning off the power the bios won't detect the keyboard. You have to completely turn off the system and reboot for a sucessful detect. Normally it works fine , press either the mouse button or keyboard button and the system will wake in about 3-5 seconds from standby. Going to try plugging a standard keyboard and mouse for a while and see if the problem still comes back - if it does will send it for replacement back to Newegg which sends you a new board once they receive the bad one - not refurbished which is a pretty decent service. Since it can't be a software issue - unless its a bios problem its either the keyboard/mouse set or the portion of the motherboard that controls the mouse/keyboard port.
