New Computer Trouble

I just built a new computer and when it powers up... bios will not come up...it does however beep, 1 long beep then 6 short beeps after. Does anyone know what that beep code is or know what's wrong?

nope still didn't work....could it be that I don't have a floppy drive hooked up? I don't use floppys so I didn't bother to put one in there. So does the computer need a floppy drive to boot up?

ok those beeps were because of a jumper misplaced...now it doesn't beep at all. Double checked all jumpers and they are located in the right places...anything I should look at if my motherboard doesn't beep?

did that and nothing but...about 1 in 15 tries the computer will boot to the "press delete" screen with no post beeps....I try to use my keyboard but it doesn't work and the light isn't on to show its active...so maybe it's the power supply? I'm using a 420 watt stock power supply and I have a pentium 4 3.2 ghz processor, 512x2 samsung ram sticks and a radeon x800 video card. Also have a dvd rom drive and a 80 gb hard drive hooked up...I'm thinking maybe power supply or shorting out? not sure

try another power supply or have it tested, put it together out of the case with
cpu,ram and video and connect the case speaker and see if it posts,if it does'nt remove the ram and see if you get the error beeps

ok I can get into bios now fairly often but....there are still some problems...Here they are

1. The computer WILL ONLY boot up after I switch off the power switch from the back of the power supply and switch it back on...After that it will usually boot up... if not I keep switching the power supply till it boots up Solution: I'm thinking it's the power supply...it came with my case and looks cheap but it does have 420 watts....Need your input on this

The other 2 problems come after the computer starts up

2. The computer goes through the usual checks "processor found", "1024 ram ok"...then it gets to checking usb massive storage device, It says 00 usb massive storage device found and the computer will stay at that...I was thinking maybe the power supply was still causing this problem because SOMETIMES the computer will not lock up here and continue on....

3. If it doesn't lock up it will later say Overclocking failed!...I didn't even overclock because its a new computer but I simply pressed f2 to revert it to default settings and I went on to the XP setup...

So all in all I CAN get into the XP setup but the above problems make it a pain to do so....I'm going to go get a power supply tomorrow but I want to hear your input about the three problems I have.

switching it off by the the back switch and working when you turn back on usually indicates power supply

so you think the power supply is causing this also? Because I can only get into the computer once in awhile and If I do it usually crashes before I gave time to install windows....My power supply is a Okia 420 W +3.3-28A +5-40A +12v-18A....maybe my +12-18A has to be greater to run a pentium 4 3.2 ghz and a radeon x800 videocard?
