CPU Heatsync Question, please help.

I'm guessing this should be under Motherboard & Bios, if not i'm sorry.
Please help me witht he following questions.

1. Hello, well i was cleaning the dust out of my computer and when i reached the CPU heatsync, i wanted to take off the fan so i can clean the dust out of the heatsync (i was using compressed air). SO i safely took the Retention Lock off both sides of Heatsyncs fan. Well then the Heatsync became loose. Is it sopposed to be loose or is it sopposed to be stable against the CPU?? and if it was sopposed to be loose (by loose i mean able to take heatsync off of CPU easily) did i ruin the paste that was between the heatsync and the CPU??? oh and if ur wondering, (sorry i go all over the place with my questions) i didnt take the heatsync off the CPU.

2. When i play 3d games, usually newer ones, the temperature of my Motherboard becomes: around 35- 40 C and my CPU becomes: 40- 45 C
Then my computer freezes and i cant do anyting except restart. So i took my computer and placed it beside the window (its really close to fall now, so there is cold air) and i play the games. Doing so, i have no problems because the temperature is now running for both CPU and Motherboard: 30-33C.
Should i buy a new heatsync and/or mod a new Fan into my case's window?

Please help me, and thank you for your time.

it seems the prescotts run hotter than the northwood cpu's and it can be a combination of things that cause the problem
