Question Asus K8N-E Deluxe no surround through optical S/PDif

I purchased a new Asus K8N-E Deluxe motherboard last friday, and have yet been able to get the optical S/PDif working correctly. I have the optical cable connected to a Technics surround sound reciever, with a 5 point surround setup, without the subwoofer. The receiver will do the full test-tones to the 5 speakers, but the soundcard cannot get all 5 speakers to emit test-tones, only the front 2 speakers would work.

Any help would be appreciated.. as I would love to experience Doom 3 with true, high quality surround sound.

Optical 5.1

I'm having the exact same problem. I have the logitech z680's hooked up via an optical cable. This setup worked great on my nforce 2 asus board but now this Realtek sound doesn't even mention optical in the software. I saw the issue on another forum and the advice was that optical would not do surround on this board. The interesting thing was that an MSI board with the same sound chip will do surround thru optical. The software appeared identical except that the optical port was on the graphical representation.
If anyone else has any ideas I'd love to hear them. Thanks
