As a novice I would like to find experience stories with this problem:
i flashed the BIOS with the 4 latest versions by EZ Flash feature: P4CED23,, P4CED22, P4CED21 and Beta 1024-001 from the ASUS site. the messages were unisono ending with ..“flashing successfully, rebooting“. But it did not reboot. Black Screen before any POST messages. Switch off and on resulted in LOGO display and proposing to use TAB. Then some POST lines follow and about line 20 it says „Checksum error“, „Overclocking failed !“ and offers F1 for Setup or F2 for Default Settings and continue - I choose F2. Then booting continues OK, but no LAN connection possible. So I choose FI and checked BIOS, all default values are set, but rebooting does not work. Then same story als above: F2 .... overclocking failed etc. although I never overclocked. apparently the BIOS does not flash, because the version shown is always 08.00.09 - 03/16/05 - P4CED106 ( not 800 ?) Any suggestions are very much appreciated. |

Re: ASUS Mobo P4C800E-Deluxe
Why did you flash bios in the first place? I dont recommend flashing
the bios unless theres a need. Go into bios and make sure raid is disabled, by default it will be enabled. Go through all the settings, most can be set to auto. Unless your in a raid enviornment I would suspect that is your problem.

Re: ASUS Mobo P4C800E-Deluxe
I remember a while back when I was heavy into that sereis of boards, you could not use EZ-flash beyond a certain bios file revision
if you "need" to flash your bios >>>>> read the manual for your board then use Afudos flashing method (the one with the floppy disk ) if you dont have a floppy drive, holler and I will give you the work around for that too just holler if you get stuck

Re: ASUS Mobo P4C800E-Deluxe
Thank Linderman and Manic in the first place for your kind hints.
(Flashing i did, because I thought after 3 years a newer Version would be better. One main reason is the long booting time (3-5 minutes) when tweaking the XP (bootvis, msconfig) did not help any further) Meanwhile I tried AFUDOS226 ( the latest offered) and P4CED23.ROM which now was a big progress. The Screen messages ware complete different and more illustrative and the result too. Most of boots now go OK, all values unchanged except disabled RAID, which I do not use. But one boot now again showed the "Overclocking failure" message and wanted me to either Setup or load defaults. I choose the second and after that some more boots went OK. I think I should watch the sit. for some days and then tell you again. ( What means "holler" - excuse me as a german not knowing the word.) Again thank you very much !!! |

Re: ASUS Mobo P4C800E-Deluxe
the "failed overclocking" message was a common problem with that sereis board >>>> try to ignore it if you can
delayed boot time; is usually a sign you are due for a fresh "clean" install of windows holler = just ask more questions as they arise

Re: ASUS Mobo P4C800E-Deluxe
Thanks LInderman,
Ok Ignore is a good advice, lets see what happens. boot time: I was given this advice and pondering myself about it. But so far could not take the decision, because building my "complex" isntallation with many useful programs, their interaction and the pertinent settings plus the settings for XP and office themselves, will take many days and probably not pe fully reproducable. So I rather loose some minutes every day and save a lot more minutes by clean install plus the subsequent re-installion of all my other prog. I hate to push your sugestion this way, but hope that maybe you have some other good thoughts. Holler - didnt know the word. my Cassels says "shouting" but I like your polite meaning much more Thank you. |
