XP shut down/power down issues..
I've been having this problem for about 2 weeks and it hasn't really bugged me too much until now. My computer seems to operate just fine as I am working or gaming aside from a few CPU spasms here and there (probably from only having 512 MB of RAM). However, when I decide to turn it off, my computer will go through the motions. Settings are saved, windows shuts down, and.........hmm. Well, I was expecting it to shut down my computer, but I guess nowadays it has other plans.
You should know that I rarely use the start menu sources to shut down because my big power button on my tower does the same thing after configuring that in the power options. Speaking of power options, I've also noticed that I don't have an APM tab/option available. My motherboard (K8V SE Deluxe) does have power management enabled, but this fix that everyone claims to do the trick for the system hang can't work in my favor since I can't find a way to configure APM through my OS. Hmph...well now that I was convinced that this was a conspiracy and God was just messing with me, I tired to shut down in good 'ol Safe Mode. That worked surprisingly well. No errors. Nothing. What's the problem? By the way, I can still move my mouse during this "hang" but the screen is blank (Windows XP standard blue background). Since I'm able to move the mouse, the computer is still responsive at this point, yes? Please get back to me on this. I really appreciate it. Zach |

Re: XP shut down/power down issues..
Well, I guess the problem is fixed now. I downloaded a bunch of uniblue software and uninstalled some crap. It seems that after nero was acting up with this "unable to open plugin manager" issue, uninstalling then reinstalling it did the trick. Everything works great now. However, the first actual successful shutdown was after my girlfriend pushed the power button on my computer when we were getting ready to leave. She said, "Should I use the start menu or what? I know that you are picky about this shutdown thing." I said, "Just push the big blue button. Maybe by some divine power invested in you, it will be fixed." Well, what do you know. My girlfriend has magical tech powers. She's amazing....but I already knew that :)
Well, thanks for reading my post. All done now! Zach |

Re: XP shut down/power down issues..
Hello Zach and Welcome to TSF.
![]() Let me start by saying Thank You for following up on your thread. Alot of people simply don't reply after solving the problem to let us know that the issue has been resolved. That is people that actually got assistance from the TSF staff. What makes your follow up even better, is the fact that you did it even though nobody responded to your thread. Your thoughtfulness is much appreciated. ![]() That leads me to my next statement. I'm sorry that you got no response from anyone here at TSF. Please don't let that fact keep you from returning to our site in the future. We have a great bunch of people here that are usually very helpful and insightful. Thank you again. Kind regards, |
