Re: Computer Freezing

Hi,
You can use SensorsView (link in my signature) to monitor temperatures, voltages and fans. It sounds like your computer is overheating. Open the case (after you unplugged the computer) and remove all dust with compressed, canned air. Make sure the fans and heatsinks get clean.

Re: Computer Freezing

Yes your cpu is overheating, as Eneles said make sure the heatsink is clear of dust, make sure the heatsink is tight.

Do these steps first and report back

Re: Computer Freezing

I cant disconnect the Fan, (i dont know what the heat sink is, but if it is that metal bit between the fan(also attached to the fan) and processor (on the mother board)), there are two clips one on either side of the processor, i unclip both of them and it stilll seems to be attached, however i took a can of compressed air to it and then restarted and the temp is down to 48 celcius/119 farenheit that is with 1% cpu, the computer still heats up to 90 celcius when i load a CPU intensive program.

Re: Computer Freezing

The 127 C/261 F is a misreading (the program can't find a temp-sensor).
What processor is in that computer?
After you've "disturbed" the heatsink you must redo the thermal paste. Arctic silver is a good brand (click for instructions).

Re: Computer Freezing

Yes i believe i may have disrupted the paste, i have a Pentium 4, 2.4Ghz. I looked at the page and i am unsure as to the type of processor i have, is the Pentium 4 2.4 Ghz one of the 3 single core chips.

Re: Computer Freezing

Yes it's a single core - this design I believe.
