My System

[SOLVED] Jumper Free Config

I have had a fiddle about with my BIOS and tried to change my performance from Standard to Turbo.

This caused the system to fail and after about 5 power on /off's it said overclocking failed and I put it back

I then tried overclocking by 5% and this worked fine.

Should I see an improvement? Is this safe or worthwhile?

Re: Jumper Free Config

You should post system specs. But I would guess its a asus board.
You will notice a improvement, not earth shattering, no harm should
come from this as long as heat isnt a issue.

Re: Jumper Free Config

Check your system temperatures using this: Sensors View (Using Sensors View)

Then run Orthos or Prime95 stress test for an hour. If the temperature and voltages remain within decency in Sensors View, then it'll be fine. It may actually boost your system performance and get your RAM to run faster with quicker timings.

Re: Jumper Free Config

you need to be running a decent psu if you are going to overclock
the days of using cheap power supplies went with win98 and me

My System

Re: Jumper Free Config

I don't think its decent but I only have 1 HDD & DVD-RW
and a low spec graphics card.

I ran prime95 for about 3 hours on Torture mode with no errors

here are my temps & Voltage - I don't think I have an AUX sensor unless its located in my oven!!!

is 11.70 OK for the +12 reading?
perhaps more worrying is the -12v reading of 1.46V?

Is this a broken sensor or a serious problem?

Re: Jumper Free Config

It looks fine to me, as Prime95 puts more stress on the CPU than you normally ever would. If that can handle it then so can anything else. Voltages remain within boundaries even under maximum load after 3 hours.

Was 60C CPU temp after 3 hours of Prime95? That is high, but then again for a Pentium 4 under 3 hour Prime95 load, in summer, it's not too bad.

The large and low voltages, the -12V and the AUX, you don't have to worry about. Ignore them like they never existed.

Run SuperPi 1.5 8M and 16M test: http://www.overclock.net/downloads/1...mod-1-5-a.html

It will check the RAM/CPU are still able to calculate the functions OK.

Re: Jumper Free Config

how long should each of the tests take? Should I start them and go and do something else?

Summer?? Your not in the UK are you - Its rained everyday for 2 months.

I'll take my case to work soon and used some compressed air to blow the dust out - Maybe that will help

Depends on the CPU power - should be no more than 20 minutes for both.
