Computer wont boot after new build?
Hi All.
So I just installed a new motherboard, CPU, memory and power supply. Now I can't boot into vista? When I boot up I get the screen that asks if I want to boot into windows normally or in safemode. If I choose safemode the computer shows it loading all the files...than it sits there for about 30sec on that screen than reboots. If I pick the normal option it gets as far as showing the windows staus bar like its loading than I can see a 'blue screen of death' for about half a second and than it reboots. Not being able to see the BSOD I can't tell why its rebooting. Does anyone have any suggestions? Can incompatible memory cause this or is it something else? Ive unplugged the power all all my HDD and cd rom aside from the OS HDD. Re: Computer wont boot after new build?
yeah the old motherboard drivers are still embedded in the operating system on the hard drive from the other motherboard
you will need to persue a repair install of vista worse case you "may" have to wipe the hard drive clean and reinstall vista but I "think" MS is going to balk, generally a new motherboard is considered a new system = new copy of vista anyway you may have to perform a clean install then call MS for activation, at that time they will give you a one time blessing from what I am hearing ????? if you have data on that drive that you cant stand to lose then I suggest you buy another hard drive, clean install windows on that drive, then you will be able to access your old drive, recover your files, then wipe (erase) that drive and live happily ever after >>>>>>>> I like that part

Re: Computer wont boot after new build?
I second that. I've tried several times to get old O/S's to run on new motherboards and even when the "run" they don't run right. Buggy as buggy can be.
I wouldn't even waste the time on a Repair Install, but would go right to the New Install. Don't forget the m/b drivers etc.... How'd you like to be a Guinea Pig & be the first kid on this block to try the new vLite slipstream program ? I really want to know if you can use it with Ryans VM and get all the updates slipstreamed into Vista. (If Ryans is making Vista Update packs. Dunno about that . . .) But yeah. New Install, definiately. |
