help!! installed 2xddr400 mem and was detected as ddr333
hi, I was wondering if anyone could help or has same problem.
have ffg setup: CPU : amd 64 3000+ MB : Biostar K8VHA Pro mem : 1 x kingston 512k 1 x vdata 256k vid : ATI 9800 HD : 1 x 40G maxtor; 1 x 80G maxtor I'm currently having problems when both mem chips are plugged in, it detects that they are DDR333 memory whereas if either one is plugged in alone it is detected as DDR400. this poses as problem when I'm doing video playback or games wherein it seems there is timing error, game/video slows down at every half a minute then speeds up very quickly.. no such problems when each mem is inserted alone. Was wondering if someone can enlighten me or solve this problem for me.. suspect it's the mobo.. so far no response from Biostar support.. Thanks/rgds |

have you tried looking in your bios settings for frequency?
My first AMD the default bios setting was like 500mhz, but it was supposed to run at 1ghz. I had to go into bios and turn it up, and my memory speed went up with it from 200-400 i think. You might want to look for that it will be under frequency controls or something similar. Also, since they are different manufacturers (memory) is it possible they don't function properly together?

thanks for the advice, do think it may be the non match thing.. tried using 2x256 ddr 333's (1 kingston, 1 samsung) and had dropped to 266.. this never occured in my old mobo w/c was some unkown hong kong brand called 2themax..
now have to go thru the hassle of haggling to get it exchanged, salesman who sold me the mobo ('cuz he didn't hav antyhing else) and 1 of the mem insisiting it should work.. anyone have comments on how good/bad biostar is? wanted an MSI which I think is only 10 bucks more elsewhere but was lazy to somewhere else and thot all mobo should be about the same, should have done it for the reliabilty and additional mem slots (biostar only has 2).. hate these pressure salesmen... btw, tried adjusting freq thru the bios.. it only has option for 100/133/166 and auto.. think 166=333 MHz so it detects 400MHz on auto only, but problem is auto does not detect it as 400 MHz when both slots used.. no reply from biostar, and they had a bios fix in their website for this problem if 4 banks are used.. tried installing it and does not solve the problem.. not sure why they had a bios fix for this problem for 4 banks when their mobo only has 2 banks.. strange and does not work also.. my bios ver is newer than the fix.. |
