Re: need help bad

Hi,
Unplug the computer and open the case. Check all cables and connections inside the case and reset BIOS. The easiest way to reset BIOS is to remove the little lithium battery for a minute and then put it back in again (the computer has to be unplugged for this to work).

thanks but i have done that , i have done every thing that i can think of , what i did do is put another harddrive in from one of my trashed pc in and it did the same thing and it was about the same age , both of these pc's are 8 yrs old , they are for a 10yr old to learn on , i'm thinking that it's trash but i was asked to try and fix it , every thing worked fine til about a mounth ago when the antivirus exspired for 2 to 2&1/2 weeks then it started to degrade rapidly, really rapidly , i am looking for sound advice to gine my brother so as not to hurt my nephew for this was his only chance to have one

Do you "see" the drives in BIOS? Are the IDE channels set to auto?

Re: need help bad

Hello again Mike.

Try disconnecting the cdrom and floppy drive and see if it'll recognize the hard drive. I had this happen once testing some CDrom drives to see if they were good. I connected one of them and nothing was recognized. Disconnected and booted up with no problem.

Keep us posted on your progress.
