HyperThreading... help!
Hi,
I have a Asus P4BP-MX (Intel 845GV) Series motherboard with a P4-2.40A GHz (533 FSB, L2 cache:1MB, 90nm) CPU. I have WinXP installed. However, the HyperThreading feature is not present in BIOS. I've updated the Intel Chipset to the latest version. Can someone help me out with this please? Thanks. Josh |

Hmmmm....not much mention in the user manual is there? No evidence this ever was in the BIOS. I would ask if you have the most recent version flashed? The one on their web site is from 7/27/2004. May/may not help, but worth a try.

HyperThreading... help!
CTSNKY: The Motherboard manual simply says that I need to ensure HT is enabled in BIOS. About flashing the BIOS, I wanted to keep that as the last option as it might lead to other problems.
Xtant: Are you sure? Because, the following link suggests otherwise. Check the last one under Intel® Pentium® 4 Processor with HT Technology † http://indigo.intel.com/compare_cpu/ Thanks. |

Cannot imagine what kind of problems you are concerned about creating with a BIOS updates. Certainly, read thru the release notes for each version they make available to insure no potential conflicts. This is usually a painless operation.
Otherwise, drop a post into the forums on the Asus site with the same question. |

Why not download and run the Intel Processor Frequency & ID Utility which will identify which chip you have and what speed you are running it at. you can find it at:
http://support.intel.com/support/pro.../CS-007623.htm There is also a Hyper-Threading Technology Test Utility from Intel. You can find it here: http://downloadfinder.intel.com/scri...ProductID=1687 Rich |

You do not have a HT CPU.

options?
Thanks. I'm beginning to believe you now. However, I still don't understand why the Intel site suggests that the 2.40A has HT.
Anyway, what are my options now? What is the next processor I can have on this motherboard that will support HT? Also, is HT really worth it? Does it really make a difference? |

HT is a pretty hotly debated topic amongst the techno geeks. Some find they get better performance with it disabled, some with it enabled. Some using 1.1 some using 1.4 versions of MP support. Is it worth ditching your CPU for, no. But if your going to get a new CPU and your motherboard supports it I think it's worth it.

This pc is barely 2 weeks old. It's pretty fast too. Boots up under 30 seconds and all. I've got 512 DDR and 80 GB Seagate with 7200 RPM. I guess I'm just too caught up in this HT thing.
So, you reckon it's not worth it right? I'm not that geeky I guess. I don't really know the terms 1.1, 1.4 etc. |
