If it's a brand new system I wouldn't bother with the HT support thing. It's really not worth it in my book. The only reason I have a HT enabled CPU is because I had no choice in the matter when ordeirng a CPU at this speed. You aren't losing out on huge performance gains or anything trust me.

I'll probably take that advice. Thanks a lot. You've been very helpful.

My System

It's true, while you won't see much difference in performace with HT while surfing the net or playing games, if you are multi-tasking you will notice it. HT allows the processor to emulate a dual processor unit by using the unused clockcycles of the cpu in parallel to get muti-threads of info processed faster. So, if you are playing a CD, using word and surfing the net all at the same time you'll find things still run smooth, and don't lock up or freeze as they did in the past. You may want to look at your cpu since the intel site states that the 2.4A 533fsb cpu does indeed support HT...you might have been ripped by whoever sold you the cpu.

That's interesting.

I contacted Intel Email Support and the guy told me that 2.4A does not support HT which is consistent with the information on http://support.intel.com/support/pr...b/CS-007991.htm
But, on another page on Intel, it say's it's compatible.

It's strange that a company like Intel doesn't know what it's talking about. Whom can you trust really!!!

options?

If at all I did want to upgrade, what options do I have now?

I'm also not really happy with the performance of the onboard Intel Extreme Graphics. What is the next best option for me so that I have an AGP slot and also an HT processor?

Well are you talking about purchasing a brand new mobo and CPU? What sort of budget do you have to spend on this stuff? What is the main purpose of your system?

Budget is very limited. That's why I bought what I bought in a hurry after my old one died. I just use it for Internet and games.

Can't buy a new one. I guess new motherboard and CPU would mean big money.
