Building a new system - Need opinions
I'm builing a new system to replace my laptop.
Main focus will be Gaming. Target Budget: $1,500.00 USD I prefer to buy from only one place so it will all come together. Newegg: CPU: Intel Core 2 Duo E6400 2.13GHz Motherboard: Asus P5NSLI -SLI, c2d, and has decent reviews on Anandtech Memory: CORSAIR ValueSelect 2GB (2 x 1GB) DDR2 667 -I game with generic memory now and works fine. Corsair will be even better. Plus, I want 2GB and don't have the money to buy the expensive stuff! Video Card: eVGA GeForce 7950GT 512MB GDDR3 KO Superclocked -enough said... Case: COOLER MASTER Centurion 5 Black -favorite inexpensive case. Plus has over 700 positive reviews on Newegg Power Supply: COOLER MASTER eXtreme Power 600W -SLI cert. and a ton of power while from a reputable company Optical Drive: SAMSUNG 18X DVD±R DVD Burner With 12X DVD-RAM Write, LightScribe Technology Hard Drive: Western Digital Caviar 320GB SATA 3.0Gb/s OS: Microsoft Windows XP Pro w/Upgrade Coupon for Vista Monitor: Optiquest by Viewsonic Q9b-2 Black 19" 8ms -because I only have a laptop so I need a monitor Cooling: Arctic Silver 5 Cooling: Silver Heatspreaders for Memory -to help value memory a little more So what do ya think? An suggestions? Thanks!

I would ditch the psu and get this one http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.asp?Item=N82E16817341001
I would get a bigger hdd (rather than 80 gig) and add a second one if you can find room in your buget, all computers should have 2 just for backup, IMHO. You don't need heatspreaders for the ram there junk and I think they actually trap heat, the value select will be great as long as you don't plan to OC |

I would go with a dual channel pair of DDR533 RAM so you get a 1:1 FSB:DRAM ratio with the 1066 MHz FSB. the 667 MHz RAM won't any faster because of the latencies.
Doby has found a very nice PSU, I back that choice. You will want a good quality power supply to hold up that system. If you do look at the 8800, then be prepared to look at 700+ w PSUs. I would get this hard disk: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16822136062 16 MB cache, and twice the size. If I had the money, I would actually get a 36 GB WD Raptor and hook the 160 GB up as a slave. I would have a very fast hard disk if I did that. But if you don't have enough $$, just go with the 160 GB. Mass storage has gotten very cheap, and the 160 GB won't be that much more expensive than the 80 GB.

Thanks everyone! I've added the OCZ PSU and the 160 GB HD, but it pushed my budget by $31. That's not bad I can still swing it so I guess I'll go for it.
I'm not quite convinced on the 8800 either. I don't know if I need that right now and when I'm ready to upgrade to Vista and DX10, that card will probably be around $300. Any thoughts?

you need it :D well look at it this way. if u buy the 7900 now u spend 200 bucks minimum ... then u upgrade for 300 bucks thats 500 bucks why not go with the 8800 right away and save some small $$$ or if the 7900 will be more then u save more in the long run.
ohh and bragging rights
