Power, bleeps but no start up

Hi,

I installed [fitted] a new motherboard in a computer I had. I used all the same components except for new memory that fit this motherboard [512mb DDR 2100] its a Epox 4BDA533 motherboard, anyway, I put it all in and I m fairly certain its all plugged in right and whatnot but when I turn it on the fans start and the power boots up but the monitor doesn’t do anything and after around 7 seconds some bleeping fades in, the bleeps are one long [2 second] bleep followed by a short [1 second] bleep, these bleeps repeat without stopping, like a siren. Anyone got any advice?

My system info is:

ATI RADEON 9200 RV280LE/SE
Creative SoundBlaster sound card
Aztec modem
Pentium 4 CPU 1.6ghz
20gb HD [which I m replacing but does work, its unformatted also]
512mb RAM

I don’t know if the RAM works, but I’ve checked if its seated correctly numerous times, I’ve also done the same with the graphics card, which I’ve tested.

Although I know it works the monitor not coming on suggests it could be that, doesn’t it?

I’m on Award Bios also

Thank you for any help x

You mentioned the "bleeps" sound like a siren, something like a European police siren, wee woo wee woo.

If so this is cpu overheat, make sure the heatsink is tight.

Did you use thermal paste? If you reused the cpu and heatsink did you clean and reapply thermal paste?

hi, i think ive found out what it is, im using a pentium 4 processor and it needs a 4 pin power lead aswell as a 20 pin one and i was using the old PSU from my other computer that just had a 20 pin plug, does that sound like it could be the cause?

Also check that the heatsink fan is running and is blowing down on the CPU.

Ok, you are going to have to clean and reappy the thermal paste on the cpu heatsink, I recomend using Artic silver

http://www.arcticsilver.com/as5.htm

follow thier instructions on the same site to clean and reapply.

If you follow these instructions and your cpu fan is connected to the correct place on the motherboard and the heatsink is tight then you will have no heat issue.

We must make sure the cpu is not over heating before we continue so please follow this advice and then post back

If you follow the instructions cleaning/ appling the artic silver is easy, I am not all that familiar with that cpu/heatsink but the last time I did one I don't remember problems at all but I have heard others complain the heatsink is a bear to get clamped down.

Maybe someone else who does alot of intels will respond

G'Day Antneedshelp!,

Doby asked me to have a look at your problem.

Now to remove your Fan/Heatsink [going by the photo that you posted]; try this...

In each of the 4 corners you will see a Black 'Pin' with a groove with an arrow on it. Take a small flat-headed screwdriver, and turn the pin until it releases from the motherboard; unplug the CPU Fan from the board, and the whole heatsink/fan unit will now be able to be lifted from the board so that you can continue with Doby's instructions.

You need to rotate them in an anti-clockwise direction.
Usually they have a groove with an arrow pointing in that direction to remove them.
Once you turn them, they will have a bit of "give" when they release from the board.

According to the Manual that I have downloaded for your board there is a POST INDICATOR on the motherboard and there is a POST guide at the back of the manual Appendix E

Re Memory , the motherboard does not support double sided x 16 DIMMS and says to use only DDR SDRAM ... does this help??
