Asus K8V SE Deluxe locking up

I just installed the K8V SE deluxe and it does boot up however it locks up when I try running it...usually at the windows xp booting screen. I have an athlon 64 3200, 1 gig of singlesided Infineon memory (cas 2.5), maxtor 30 gig harddrive ata as master, 500 watt psu. What would be causing the system to lock up? Could it be the memory, short circuit, or mobo problem? I am able to get into bios and everything looks fine there. Is it possible I need to flash the bios?

Hi richecker and welcome to the forums.
I would guess it is the memory. You can run memtest GET IT HERE. Did you have any problems loading XP or was it already on the hard drive. If you Pulled the hard drive from another machine, you'll always have problems and it should be reformated and XP reinstalled...

Will give that a try. Its a clean harddrive so no that is not the problem. I checked with Asus and apparently this memory should work but after going online and reading some of the reviews on this board, they all agree that memory is the hardest to find for compatibility with the board. I have to go to work now but when I get back I'll let you know what happens.

Ok I got another harddrive in there, another 30 gig maxtor havent run memtest yet. but am getting a few different errors. My current Configuration:

Mobo: ASUS K8V SE Deluxe
CPU: AMD64 Athlon 3200+
Memory: Infineon PC3200 1GB (2x512MB)
HDD: Maxtor 30GB 7200RPM, Jumper set to Master on Primary IDE
Optical: Buslink DVD-Burner, Jumper set to Master on Secondary IDE
Floppy: None at this time
OS: XP Professional—not installed

Problems vary but include:
• Computer can freeze/lockup anywhere between power on to attempting to load the OS.
• “VGA Test Failed” and output not display to monitor.
• Freezes after Initializing USB Controllers
• No Drive attached to FastTrack controller—BIOS not installed>lockup
• Has tendency to lockup anywhere when initially trying to load OS (No OS installed)

I still think it's the memory... try the memtest86.

Seems as though the system is not on long enough for me to even try to get this test running. Any other suggestions? Should I ship the memory back and go for kingston?

according to ASUS's web site, Infineon 256 is the largest SS memory on the qualified list...

512M Kingston KVR400X64C3A/512 Hynix DS HY5DV56822BT-D43 is on the list...

Thanks for your help I guess I jsut overlooked that part. The company I bought the memory from assured me it would work but I guess I was supposed to get the DS instead of the SS. Seems like the problem is solved, thanks for the help.

i'm pretty much having the same problems as you!!! my boot up time is way too long!!!

as far as • No Drive attached to FastTrack controller—BIOS not installed>lockup...... this is common if you are not using sata, just go into bios...advance...onboard devices.....onboard promise controller....disable! that will take care of the FastTrack controller prob.
