Help, PC won't load up.
Hi,
I have an Asus P5GDC-V Deluxe motherboard, and it was working fine for 2 years. So today, I went to shut down my PC from Windows XP, and accidently clicked "Stand By" intead of "Shut down". But for some reason my PC just turned off automatically. So I was like "Whatever", and turned off the power bar. Later I went to turn my PC on, and there was no beep, no post, or anything, and my monitor was just a blank screen. I unplugged the power, restarted the power supply, but still nothing. Is my PC in a permanent state of "stand by"? Should I reset the bios? Or is my motherboard fried? I tried putting the jumpers on the motherboard in the position of "Wake on S1 sleep mode" but still nothing. Now I'm starting to regret accidently hitting the "stand by" button. I wish MS didn't put that button so close to "shut down". :( Can anyone help me? Thanks in advanced. :) |

Hi, Accidently hitting standby won't do what you are describing this is more likely a broken part.
When you push the power button does anything happen like fans spinning or any lights? If you get nothing its possibly the powersupply or case switch but of course make sure the wall outlet and surge protector have power. If you have fans spinning then start removing the drives and cards (except video) to see if you can get a post, if you get a post then add the drives and or cards one at a time to you find the bad one. Post back and let us know if any of this helps and exactly what it does when you push the button and please include you full system specs. Rick |

Yeah my lights, fans, drives still work. So it isn't my power supply. I'll start doing what you suggest and see if it's a broken part. Thanks. :)

Reset the cmos, I doubt that will help but worth a shot.
Reseat the ram and video card What is the name and model of your power supply? Do you have or can you barrow a quality known working power supply? This would be the next thing to check and its best to swap one in. |

At this point I suspect the powersupply because if it were the video card or ram the system would give you a beep code indicating so. I could possibly be the motherboard but like I said this is a process of elimination |
