Computer won't POST

I have a Dell Inspiron 8100 running WinXP. My issues have been mounting. First I had error message PXE-E05. Then my cd drive started working intermittently, so I couldn't boot from the cd. Then I can't get into my BIOS. Now computer only starts randomly. During 1 of these lucky times, I tried to flash my BIOS, but it said "unable to obtain required information about your system." On most occasions, when I try to reboot (oh yeah, when I try to restart, it shuts down completely??), machine gets to logo screen and right to a black screen with cursor blicking in top left corner. HELP???!!!!!!

OK, this is what I know. Intel mobile CPU 1133MHz, 1.13 GHz, 256mb RAM. Don't know what motherboard it is without opening it up, AGAIN. I haven't upgraded it since I bought it from Dell about 5 years ago, so it has whatever Dell put in it to start with. Does that help at all?? What other info would you like?

Re: Computer won't POST

Could be a faulty power switch, as yes they do go out. I think I remember some manuf. having problems with this.

You might need to have some troubleshoot this one physically. As power switches aren't expensive, but hard to download.

That's what it sounds like to me anyway. It's keeps shifting off, and throwing the system board.

Re: Computer won't POST

gargola.....Please take a few minutes and post your own thread. That way you will get more help instead of us trying to fix two different problems at the same time. When you get it posted, send me a link via PM and I will come and take a look at your issues.
