linderman -
I read thru this long thread, and don't know if I missed it or not - way back there on page 2 or thereabouts the OP mentioned that his heatsink wiggles around when he pushes on it. Was this addressed? I never saw a CPU temp in all this correspondence - did I miss it?
I'm concerned that his CPU is frying.

OK. Let me add this.

I did nothing to the Heatsink. The clip system looks difficult to get at and tricky to remove/replace.

I have had the fan off it (4 tiny screws) but have never had the Heatsink off or out of the unit. Knowing the clip system is "spring loaded" to a degree, what I get is slight movement up/down when I push on the edge of the heatsink (like it is spring loaded).

We talked about replacing and thermal paste but I was leary of removing it and not getting it back in correctly.

There appears no way to monitor that temp as there is no cpu sensor on my mb.

So my only avail thermal sensor appears to be the HD and with an added case fan, the side off and a fan blowing into the box, the HD Temp has averaged 34c.

My system is not acting unstable at all. I did install the new power switch and still do have to fiddle with the on off from time to time but I have traced that to the psu plug and believe this will resolve with the new psu (projected install Tuesday)..

Bottom line, I have no idea if the cpu is overheating but I do know that the added RAM, the added cooling and a general cleaning seem to have stopped the unexpected power offs and preceeding beeps initially posted about. The system has not done that since cleaning and reseating the RAM, PCI and APG cards installed.

So I wait for the psu connector so as t install it and the new vid card but in the interim I am having no apparent problems with the system. And I sat here last night and caught up on golf tourney rounds and was full blown 3d rendering all night without any issues.

Any questions??

Steve

Joe,

The more I fiddle around, it is weird, the more info comes out of Everest?????????

It used to say HDD sensor type and only give a temp for the HD now this is what is on the right when sensor is highlighted (how do I take a snapshot and paste it here??

Sensor Properties
Sensor Type VIA 686 Internal (ISA E880h)

Temperatures

I did not mean to alarm you; in as much as your heat sink is spring loaded it should have some flex to it. I wouldnt mess with it >>>> many mothergboards must be take out of the case to install the heatsink to the cpu >>>> you dont need that!

you temps are staying alot better now; at least if the drive is staying 34C then things are noirmal inside the case you have done well; I think it will improve further when you get the PSU installed because you wont be pushing a 500 watt unit like your current one is held to the floor!

enjoy and post the results from PSU install

Joe,

Pic of what they sent #251

Pic comparing the two plug ends (#254) that go into the modular female outlet on the psu. Really only a hair larger but will not fit.

And it says on the website, for the NeoPower 410 only!! Which the guy today clearly knew was the wrong one. So typical.

if it were me; I would simply cut the end of one of the PCI express power plugs coming from new PSU and connect by color to the new adapter they sent with the use of a soldering gun? do you know anyone capable of using a soldering gun ???? not a difficult challenge

hopefully they will send a faster mule the second time !!

I have a soldering iron (pen type) for fine work and I believe I could do that however, the six wires coming off the MB end up being four wires going into the psu. In fact they splice together the two Orange wires to one and two of the three black wires are spliced into one therefore ther are two blacks a red and an orange wire going into the plug end that does not fit.

So, I am a bit confused as to how to correlate them as the PCI Express has three yellow and three black and I guess I should just wait since it still is over my head I think lol.

Ultimately, do I not need those PCI Express plugs??? I see no components that would take that plug type??

Also, what kind of plug is this and can I harvest from this as I see nothing in my box that takes the thin plug style depicted????

Thanks for all of your patience Joe.

the thin plug you see is a Sata drive power plug

the pci- express plugs are the power plugs used by the new pci-express video cards

as long as you connect wires by color you will be fine >>>>

if you have any doubt whatsoever >>>> dont do it

but it should be a simple matter of connecting matching color wire from the 6 pin motherboard plug you need to matching collor wires supplied from either a pci-express plug or sata drive plug >>>>

Gotcha. Thanks. I am pretty conservative so I won't be cutting any ends off till I can conceptualize it or draw it out and know pretty much what I am doing.

Thumbs Up

Hey it's late I know.

I made the connector and my question would be>>>>>>if I got it wrong would I be able to send you this post??

There is no smoke, were no sparks and thus far all drives are working, vid card installed effortlessly and the psu is in!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I must say, It is like a new computer and of course, I am a glass half empty dude and will keep my fingers crossed.

Had a hell of a time with the solder the stuff with flux would not adhere then found some straight solder, no doubt not perfect for electronics application but hey, its running and thus far no sounds smells or other funky stuff happening.

Thanks........Joe et al I will keep you posted and the Cokes are on me (or Canadian Beers)!!!

Hey Joe,

The video card is really really nice!! I havn't had this great a pic in two years. stayed up to play a round of golf in the online tourney and WOW never has it looked better, rendered scenes faster and thats cranking all the shadows and details up max in the game.

I did have some wierd "pencil lines" in the game and did a search and wound up getting some tech support who said it was the anti aliasing which by golly it was, made the adj >>>>>>and perfect.

So, paranoind yes, but my temps are 34 average and I just cannot thank you enough. In the world of Steve though, I lost my internet connection this afternoon. I have a cable (adelphia) modem and a Vonage phone router with ethernet card. Damned if I didn't need to reinstall the ethernet card>>>>>>the drivers that came with it on Floppy only >>>>>>and as soon as it started to search the floppy drive>>>>>clang crunch wheeze, "please insert a disk into drive A".

I restart, get this funky message your configuration has automatiucally updated diskett drives and its gone!!!! Fiddle remove replace hit with hammer no floppy access. 19 bucks at staples and I am moving again. Seems to be working fine though "noisy" compared to my OEM

Can you believe it, I am just running by the seat of my pants and yes, I already copied it onto a cd. lol

OK, so all is checking out......I did wonder if that A drive might be tied into the AUX Power and wether something is amiss???

Thanks Joe. No No I have it plugged in the Floppy and its working I was worrying that it stopped working initially because of a "wiring" issue on that Impromptu AUX cable!!!

All seems well.

Hey Hey Hey,

AUX Power Cable from Antec (The Correct One) came today Priority Mail Despite blowing off steam at the guy who said, "Sir, are you finished?" lol.....I thought I might get the Cable in October!

The computer is running great and all is well it is back in the desk for the first time in a month.

Temp is ok (36) but I will need to keep an eye on that and use the "Auxillary Fan" in extreme cases.

Thanks again for everything Joe!! Have a Gr8 Weekend!!
