Don't try to Overclock the 9550 256MB very much, especially if you have heat problems. The RAM tops out at 210MHz (5ns), and the core doesn't have the kind of fan needed to push the clock rate up.

It will play games decently at medium settings, from my experience.

Joe, Help,

I am not sure how to get images from digital cam in these posts???

I got eager and purchased the 500 w Antec psu. As you know it comes with a 24 pin connector with option to pare it down to 20 pin connector. It also has another 4 pin connector (square) for what it says is 12v if needed.

Question, my psu has the 20 pin connector and another straight 6 pin connector????? Nothing in the Antec supplies correlates and the instractions say

"If your MB requires a 6-Pin AUX Power Connector, please contact Antec Customer Service at ###-###-#### to purchase the optional AUX Power connector.

What to do?? Do I need that 6-pin connector?? On my psu it is 3 black wires 2 orange and a red?

Will await your direction. I have good pics of it all I just cant figure out as I said, getting them pasted in here. I did try one above and maybe it worked though it only pointed to the folder not the photo.

Scratch that I attached the pics

i just practiced this trick on an old molex connector >>> that the four pin connector that plugs into any hard drive, cd-rom drive etc

you simply pull the ink guts outta any Bic play point pen to come up with the core that has the ink in it and the ball tip

then you use the opposite end that has the ball point >>>> you use the empty straw tying looking end to push onto the molex connector pin starting at the end opposite the wires

start with old six pin conenctor on old PSU push the ball point pen straw onto one of the pins >>> then gently apply pressure on the wired end and remove the pin from the plastic plug its actually very easy

you will need however to write down the orientaion of the collored wires from the old conenctor

you will most likely need to empty two foru pin molex plugs from the new psu to supply the feeds for the replacment plug

well ?????? LOL

Joe,

How are you?

This part is what Antec CS directed me to on their site and I asked about it saying "neopower 480 only" and he said no problem it is the six pin and will fit the sp 500 also. Would you take that as the gospel or do more research. Granted it's 1.95 but the shipping is 9 bucks...LOL.

Joe,

Yes, unfortunately it was done over the phone and her directed me to the website while on the phone and clicked me through to the part when I said whoa, this says..........and he said it would work so I hung up then said gee, should have got his name.

Hey, the RAM sticks came today and are in. System is a little unstable and/or I am having issues with IE. Any IE page I attempt to open freezes the system and have to power off with the ps pushed for ten seconds. Then scan disk. then freeze again. I d/l firefox and that is working great but wont let me get windows updates??? Funny.

So far I have gotten a couple of errors that there is not enough memory to run a prog and to close some which I never got before. Research seems to point to tweaking the vcache and virtual mem settings but I have done nothing. Seems as long as I stay away from IE It is stable. Tried uninstall/reinstall and an older version but still freezes everytime. Bizzarre.

I am sending you out the RAM stick in the morning and my ps came with several varieties which will never fit my board so I tossed them in. Thanks Much Joe.

As for the AUX Connector, I ordered it.

those are bizzare errors >>>> trying downloading and running memtest (free in my sig) let run for two hours

I use the browser Opera >>>> very nice, much faster than IE and it has a patch that gets you the windows updates !! I think there is one for FF too!

but anyway I would never use IE again

you may find and I think you will your errors go away with the new PSU >>>>memory is very finicky about ultra clean voltage the most common reason found for returned defective memory is bad PSU voltage >>> this statement comes from memory manufacturers !

keep me posted >>>> your adapter should be too you fast ! hopefully the $9.00 shipping was for next day !!! LOL

keep me posted >>>> should be well worth the wait

Hey Joe,

I know those WERE bizarre errors. I finally did a clean re install and it (IE) is working fine. FF works very well too and I have long been advised to steer clear of IE, diehards you know. Anyway they seem gone (errors) for now.

I will do the memtest and I think thinngs are working much smoother now. I will admitt I d/l Casheman and it had a config for systems with greter than 512MB RAM running ME and I let the wizards set my vcashe and virt mem and some other tweaks and it is (fingers crossed) zipping at the moment.

Beleive it or not, next day on that was 38 bucks the 9 was the lesser of three options and the two day was 20 somethig WOW and get this, when I went to check out with the part to pay, it had a huge message about problems with their electronic ordering system which could delay shipping so who knows, if you knew me, it is PAR for the course!!!

Thanks very much and believe me, you are my ace in the hole right now but I promise if I have weird stuff I will post on the appropriate thread...lol

I sent them a well worded email through their site about how I was appalled to have to pay for the connector after paying nearly 100 for the psu which naturally would be going into both older and newer systems and to charge extra for it was extortion. And that was before I knew what the costs were>>>>>>so I am not one to be generally quiet in such situations. If I have the time or the incling I will write a letter to the Exec. management and see if i can't get my psu connector for nothing lol.

I am eager to get it in because I am still having, before and after RAM upgrade, phantom restarts now every few hours, click on something and reboots without warning. Soooo, psu is the next thing and lets hope I get the plu before I get the vid card (I'll wait like you advised) just teasing.

Have a good night.

Just an FYI for you. I have had very few issues with the system today and casheman seems to be great as far as trying diff configurations of cashe and read ahead and pagefile stuff, none of which I profess to really grasp. Point is the system is screaming and now I am waiting on my cable LAN versus the computer thanks to you!!!!

I ram memtest overnight and though I could not find how to save, it found no errors in 6+ hours so I think all is a go.

Still some wierd stuff but some is attributable to me doing a factory restore after getting the RAM and PSU as I wanted a fresh start so I have been continually updating drivers and restoring progz however, I must have done something because try as I might, I cannot get Everest to give me that sensor temp reading anymore?? Obviously I had to reinstall and I got a fresh copy from your sig but no temp. when I highlight "sensor" as I did before the right pane stays grey and does not give the HDD 47C like it did. Nothing changed on my HD or how hooked up>>>>>>>>>>BIOS is the same date as before. I figure I did something when I had the psu unhooked from the MB but checking those connects, nothing. so just strange is all. Can't wait for the connector or really the vid card.

Thanks Joe.

Joe,

Vid card just arrived vis Priority Mail.

I know I can't (or shouldn't) install it till I get the new psu installed, but will you outline the steps for me.

1. Shut Down System.
2. Restart in Safe Mode and Remove Nvidia device from the Device Mgr and from Add/Remove in Control Panel.
3. Shut system down.
4. Remove Nvidia Card and Install ATI Card.
5. Boot up and let windows "do it's thing" installing windows drivers for the ATI or for Rage Pro (which seems built in)?
6. Slap in the CD that came with ATI and install software/drivers.
7. Device Manager, ATI Device.........update driver???????

Viola??

Advise at will with a half promise that I wont install it until NEXT TUESDAY come on (proj delivery date of AUX cable).

LOL
