random blackouts & restarts
Hi, i recently had a post up a while back, was semi-resolved basically it was a similar problem however now ive found a program that seems to always cause my pc to blackout and restart.
my system specs are; P4 3.2 Prescott 478pin, Asus P4C800E Dlx, standard Crucial PC400 1gb ram, 128mb ati radeon 9800 pro (sapphire), 80gb IDE harddrive, 40gb Harddrive, Jeantech Imax Case, Philips PSC 604 Soundcard, Jeantech 450w powersupply i think thats all thats mportant atm, anyway, i was playing an old game recently with a mate, unrealtournament(the original) and after about 10mins of play, the computer shuts of and restarts randomly (no blue screen or anything) upon restart i get the typical "windows encountered a serious error blah blah" i send error report n get back "Error caused by a device driver" but they do not kno what device it could be. in my old post, i was having processor problems, beforehand i had NO problems what so ever with my pc, it was the same specs as above but with a 2.4processor (northwind or northdale whatver they called) and i never had any problems with drivers, im also sure its not to do with temperature or throttling as ive made sure to have adequet airflow and coolign in my case. thank you and i hope you can help:)

Hi,
So we can kind of get an overview of a few things, download and run this free program and post it for us. It does a great job of monitoring some things: SensorView Pro (Free to try for like 21 days – Is excellent) http://www.stvsoft.com/download.php?id=122 While it may very well be a driver, it may be something else that doesn't let a proper driver function properly. Quite honestly, you may also have to begin to look at the power supply in this instance. The program might help us in that area too. While you are at it, look on the side of your power supply and tell me how many amps are listed on the +12 volt rail. Post back with results.

random reboots can also be associated with faulty RAM. you can download memtest to check the memory. if you do run this program do 1 memory stick at a time to help isolate the faulty memory stick (if it is the cause of the reboot).

Hi,
Just a couple of comments. (edit: What a bunch of garbage, i was actually very long winded....sorry) First of all, the temp on your CPU is rather high for at-idle. However, still within normal specs for a Prescott. It would be real interesting to see what thay baby gets up to while playing the game that tanks it. Might be worth while to give that a try, although that does not on first glance appear to be an issue. I don't know much about your Jeantech power supply so difficult to know much about it. Might be a good idea to look on the side or back of the power supply and tell us how many amps on that 12 volt rail. That would be indicative of information that might help. The third thought. Have you given any thought to trying the Omega drivers for this card. IMHO, they really are the best for the card that you have. Here is a link and some thoughts you want to consider if you wish to explore that option: Some times when the ATI drivers don't work, you can get better success with the Omega drivers. Here is a link if interested that tells you how to uninstall others and then a link for Omega: What is the full uninstall procedure I must follow if I want to remove the XX drivers from my system? Before you start this full uninstall procedure, make sure you have downloaded and installed the latest version of Driver Cleaner; if you are using my drivers then a special version of Driver Cleaner is already included. Driver Cleaner Link http://www.softpedia.com/progDownloa...load-6505.html Clean procedure to remove old drivers 1. Go to the Windows Control Panel, Add/Remove Programs section. 2. Uninstall the ATI Control Panel or Catalyst Control Center, don’t restart. 3. If uninstalling the Omega Drivers, uninstall Radlinker (if using an old driver set). 4. Uninstall the existing driver set, restart. 5. Boot your PC in safe mode. 6. Run Driver Cleaner, restart afterwards. 7. If uninstalling the Omega Drivers, now uninstall the Setup Tools from the Start Menu. 8. Now you can install any driver you like. Here is the link to Omega Drivers: http://www.omegadrivers.net/ Hope I have not flooded you with too much at one time, but what the heck, take a look and post back with questions or concerns.

thanks i shall try that out now.
also i ran Oblivion in windowed mode to observe the temperature lvls, ithe cpu climbed to the highest of 63degrees, as for the PSU, on my previous problem i had updated the psu to this one as it did no meet the required amps for the +12 i believe, upon purchasing this one i made sure it can power my cpu efficently. i also made the effort to change the default thermal compound and heatsink tht came with my processor to cool it, though so far this is the coolest ive got it, the change in CPU temp was the most obvious one at the time, though i have no log of what happens upon or just before the crash:(

hmm fans, ok i have 1 main 120mm at the back, blowing air out, 2, 80mm at the front blowing air in and theres another 80mm fan on the side of the case blowing air in, i also believe the 80mm fan on the processor is blowing air away from the processor (atm temp runing at 49degrees with itunes and msn running mainly)

sorry about the late reply was on a short holiday, the crashing problem seems to be resolved with these Omega drivers, seems to be more compatible with my radeon though not running as fast as the ATI drivers, also i changed the fan over so air is now blowing onto the processor, no change in temp though.. currently 48degrees Celcius
