Labtop to monitor problem

im running a compac HP AMD Athlon , and the monitor is cracked. so we bought a new monitor and tried hooking it up to replace the labtop monitor.

so we plug it in, start the computer and we get the monitor during the startup, but perishes when the log in screen comes on!

any suggesstions to this problem would be wonderful

Look at the F# keys and see if there is writing in blue or white. Those are secondary functions that are enabled using the Fn key. Pressing them together can enable things such as external displays, number locks, hibernation, and more.
