512 Mb Ram?????????????

Hi

I have a couple of questions:

1.) I bought a new laptop and it;s supposed to have 512MB but when I go to My Computer -> Properties, it says 504MB RAM. Is this right? I know harddisk size will be lower than the stated specs but does the same apply to RAM as well?

2.) How do I physically retrieve and examine the RAM chip in Dell Insipron 6000?

It's possible that the RAM is shared with the video card. In this case, 8MB would be allocated for video use and the remaining amount is left for the system.
