Hey, i need help putting an xp operating system on an old ibm thinkpad, it had windows 98 on it previously, i have formatted the drive, and when i rebooted it(The XP disk is in), it just says "Invalid System disk,Replace this disk, and then press any key"
I dont know what to do as pressing any key does not work, i hope Xp will go on.

First off, will this laptop be capable of running XP? Think about that seriously before trying.

When the laptop powers on, press F2 to enter the BIOS and make sure your optical drive is set as the first boot device. If it can't read, consider getting a replacement CD from Microsoft or getting an exchange from the retailer you bought it from.

Likely causes are a defective drive, corrupted files. Is the cd a burnt copy? Do you know if the drive worked prior to this?
