can't start DELL inspiron laptop

hi all, hope someone can help me to sort this out.
my 'dell' laptop gave me a error message --> 'a problem has been detected and windows has been shut down to prevent damage to your computer.
IRQL_NOT_LESS_OR_EQUAL , DRIVER_CORRUPTED_MMPOOL'....'
I tried to reboot many many times last night and use the 'safe' mode but still no use. Today, no matter how hard I pressed the 'start' button, the 'machine' just start in 2-3 seconds then die, it didn't look for A: drive or C: drive to boot. I think something wrong with the BIOS. It didn't display the blue screen, I couln't go to the BIOS to check things. Can anyone tell me what I should do. IT is running XP, pentium 4 1.7G, HD -40G.

Hi there,

A bit of googling around seems to indicate that you have a RAM problem.
If you have several modules, you could try them separately.

Silly question: is there a way to run memtest if he can't go as far as the BIOS, let alone boot a drive?

I'm asking because I have very similar symptoms, on a Toshiba Satellite A30, and I'd love to be able to test the memory, but I don't have a compatible laptop to do so...

Ben

Memtest makes a bootable disk. Sometimes it will boot, even if you can not start Windows.

I have had the same problems with my computer it will be running fine then lock up make a funny noise and then the blue screen that a physical dump is going on. Then after a few hours it will work either really slow or work fine. Then it will work fine for a couple of days. You think its the DDR memory for my lap top?
