Having problem with battery
I have a hp pavilion ze4540us. I just got a battery for it off eBay (lithium-ion). When I received the battery there was no charge on it. When I first started charging it, it stopped charging several times and I had to pull the battery out and then put it back in to get it to continue charging. I finally got it to charge to 100%. I ran the computer for awhile until it droped to 30%then charged it again. It once again stopped charging (at 60%) but this time after I pulled the battery out and replaced it, it read 100% charged. It did this 3 more times after using the laptop for awhile then charging it, then all the sudden it would charge all the way to 100% again without having to remove the battery. Now I am having a problem with the battery life.
In safe mode, the battery dies in approx 1 hour but if I run the computer normally and try running programs, it dies in about 5 minutes. I am not sure if this is a bad battery or something else. I checked the HP website and downloaded a BIOS update but it did not fix the problem. I heard somewhere that if you do not have much ram it will kill a battery quick, but I do not know if this is true. I currently only have 256 ram installed. My battery is not one listed on the recall. I anyone has an idea what may be wrong I would appreciate the help Vanessa Last edited by NessaLea; 03-28-2006 at 05:05 AM. Reason: forgot info |

Was the status of it As-Is when you bought it? If it's just a used battery it may have been pushed to the end of its useful life.

The auction did not state "as is". It said the battery was in excellent condition. I plan on contacting the seller about this I just wanted to make sure it wasn't my laptop that was causing the battery to die so fast.
I guess I have to get another battery. Thanks Vanessa |
