Dissassemble TFT display

Hi guys.

I wanted to know if Anyone had successfully removed a Notebook display from its case/bezel?

I want the TFT display on its own so that I can replace the back of the display.

I cant find any screws or anything holding the display with the bezel...so any recomendations how to procede?

let me know how it turns out.

also, i hope i'm not late in mentioning, the backlight on those, carries a very real risk of death by electrocution if you go poking at the wrong thing.

the first time i opened one, (a 486 thinkpad with 3.1.1 on it) i gave myself the shock of a lifetime, because i had the shell off the screen, and i grabbed it on the top, and went to close it.

let's just say for a few seconds i actually couldn't see anything.

do be careful, please?

Oh wow.. that is some interesting info! I never thought the backlighting on one of those TFT's could hold a charge so powerful.

Well, I still havent open her up yet..still waiting on my carbon fiber before I do anything

So a question, I assume there would not be a capacitator on the back of that thing... so then, where is the charge held? And how would I discharge it. I know how to discharge a CRT, but never worked with a TFT without a tube.

So I guess this means I should pull out my rubber gloves and work with that thing, huh..

well, for what it's worth, when i zapped myself, it was plugged in and running at the time.

i don't think it's capacitive, i think it's just that strong of a step up transformer.

something like 5x the power of a car's ignition coil is what it felt like.
(i say that, because i've been zapped many many times by spark plug wires, and never ever fell limp and went momentarily blind from it.)

That is really scary! That's alot of close calls volt!

Only time I remeber being electronicuted was when I was plugging the clothes washer back in the outlet. I had removed it to plug in a CO2 detector..then when I went to plug it in..I believe my finger was touching one of the three prongs. It was only instantanious...not even a second..but this strange feeling zipped through my arm...followed by a strong strong pain..couldnt move my arm for that second..then just..flung my arm back. It was such an odd feeling.

I will unplug the laptop, pull the battery out..and wear rubber gloves when handling the TFT.
