Thinkpad 360ED Dissembly/Installion Issue

I have an IBM Thinkpad that has no operating system installed. I tried hitting F1 for setup, configuring it to boot from a Windows 98 cd, but the cd comes on for about five seconds, then stops, leaving "I9990305" on the black screen. "No operating system installed" has also appeared. So I'm not sure if I configured setup correctly. Can someone walk me through this?

My second issue is accessing the hard drive, as I eventually want to swap the current hard drive for one that has info from my previous IBM (it went kaput). These are the steps I took....or tried to....I only got as far as Step 6:

IBM® ThinkPad 380D, 380ED/385D/385ED
Turn the notebook upside-down.
Remove the battery pack.
Remove the 8 Phillips screws on the bottom half of the notebook.
Turn the notebook right-side-up.
Raise the LCD.
Remove the top half completely off of the notebook.
Remove the 3 keyboard cables from the motherboard and set the top half of the notebook aside.
Remove the top Phillips screw from behind the LCD right hinge.
Remove the Phillips screw that is located above the parallel port.
Remove the CD/Floppy disk and flip it out of the way (you don't have to remove its cables).
Slide the hard drive out of the notebook.
Remove the bracket from the old hard drive and install it onto the new hard drive.
Slide the new hard drive into the notebook, making sure that it is firmly connected.
Replace the CD/Floppy disk.
Replace the Phillips screws that were removed in STEP# 9 and STEP# 8.
Take the top half of the notebook and replace its 3 keybaord cables to the motherboard.
Snap the top half of the notebook down and make sure that it is firmly in place.
Close the LCD.
Turn the notebook upside-down.
Replace the 8 Phillips screws that were removed in STEP# 3.
Replace the battery pack.

Even after removing every screw I could see....there were twelve....the top half seems immoveable, and since I destroyed the previous IBM by trying to get the hard drive out, I will concede defeat and ask for help.

If someone can help me resolve these two issues by relaying it in kindergarten book format, I would be most grateful!
