Easy Vaio question

Hello computer Gods, easy one.
2003 Vaio 30 gig hd. (Bosses laptop) It is partitioned into: c: 13.9 gig and d: 23.2 gig. Both are NTFS (what ever that means) and he is filling up the c area and has been warned about the 15% left in memory.
Why was it partitioned that way new?
Will it automatically start saving files in the d: drive?
Help?

Your best bet is to purchase a program called Partition Magic. This will let you resize C and D to any size you wish. You can even remove d and have a very large c drive.

Thanks, for the help, but will Windows "rollover" to the next drive when saving files?

If that is how you choose to set it up. You can even do away with the second drive letter and have one large c drive.
