Laptop recommendations

Hi,

I would like to buy a laptop to use on my commute on the coach to and from work, but I am not an expert on laptops and would rather get a recommendation from people who know more than me.

What would be ideal is:

12.1 -13 inch screen as there is not much room on the coach
Fairly long battery life
Reasonably priced (definately less than £1000)
As powerful as possible within the budget

Consider all buying options, UK, Overseas, Second-hand what-have you!

If anyone can come in with suggestion/recomendations/details I will be very very grateful.

Thanks one and all.

BWA.
