SONY PRD-650 CD-ROM drive for laptop

Hi,

Not sure if this is the best place to post this, but there isn't a CD-ROM category.

Does anyone know anything about this Laptop CD-ROM drive. Its a SONY CD-ROM / DISCMAN PRD-650. It has a PCMCIA interface. I just bought it secondhand and it doesn't have any Power supply or batteries. I was wondering if it can be powered through the PCMCIA slot, although I am getting no response from it at present.

Also on the subject of CD-ROM drives, I have a Toshiba Mobile IQ CD-ROM (PCMCIA), I downloaded a driver for it (had a file missing but I was able to install using the device manager). It whirs and sounds like its about to start reading the disc but then it slows down again (keeps doing this). Tried several discs, all clean. Could the drive be damaged?

Thanks,

Derek

PS. Using WIN 98
