Dell Inspiron Power Problem

I'm new here and hope someone can give me some help.

My daughter's Dell Inspiron 9400 will power up and run on the battery but not with the power cord. We've tried 3 different power cords with the same result. The battery will charge with the power cord but the laptop won't work with it plugged in. If it is running on battery power and you plug the power cord in, the laptop shuts off.

The laptop is out of warranty.

Did you use original/genuine DELL adapter specific for your laptop model? Also check the DC IN jack connection or its connection to the motherboard.
