Compaq Presario R3000

One of my laptop's is a Compaq Presario R3000. It was working ok until the other day , I booted up like normal , but this time for some unknown reason my monitor screen is displaying "nothing". I hear the fan and hard-drive but there is no image on the screen. I also connected my flat panel desktop monitor to see if I would obtain an image this way, to possibly determine if it's the video card or the screen or possibly both; but unfortunately the external monitor doesn't display either.

Need some guidance here, I have had this laptop for a couple of years and no issues such as this. Should I fear the worse, a bad video card and I believe it's part of the mb so that could be quite expensive but would like some guidance before I put out any money and wouldn't invest too much in the laptop.

Appreciate any positive feedback...

Re: Compaq Presario R3000

Re: Compaq Presario R3000

By torch dai means flashlight not blowtorch, etc. I hope this is a clarification that isn't needed... but just in case ;-)
