[SOLVED] Acer 9300 Video Problem

Hello to all its my first post on this site.

I have just started to get a display problem on my Acer 9300 laptop everything has been fine watching Avi Divx dvd ect now I am getting small vertical broken lines here and there on playback. Webpages & other apps are displaying without problems

I have uninstalled the vga drivers reinstalled them, & done the same with the codecs I have tried a couple of different media players including windows I tried VLC player which played better.

If its a faulty graphics chip is this an easy job & does anyone know how much I would be looking at? any help appreciated.

Kind Regards
Pete

Re: Acer 9300 Video Problem

Welcome smokes205

First thing to do is connect it up to an external monitor, if all is ok on the ext mon when you run these apps then you can dismiss a graphics problem.

Lets take it from there first.

Re: Acer 9300 Video Problem

Thanks for the advice Night Shift I have tried waht you said.

The problem has got worse today there is a grid allover playback, everything else like web pages & word are fine.

I have a feeling it may be a faulty Graphics chip.

If your GPU was sick, all your other apps would be having problems. I dont think your GPU is the problem. Could be something related to the DVD player and all your media drivers . Uninstall your DVD player driver and reinstall/update.

Re: Acer 9300 Video Problem

it is horizontal or vertical tearing.
it happened to me one time when i updated my graphic card driver.
if you have done this roll back the driver and try the dvd

Re: Acer 9300 Video Problem

Hi Kyle

Thanks for the help
Its a mass grid Tartan like lines allover it makes no difference what program I use Win Media Player, Classic Media Player, Vlc or Crystal Player. All the video files are on hard disk.

I have reinstalled XP tried XP Codec Pack removed that then tried K lite, the problem is still there, I have tried another Nvidia driver but get an error "Cant support device or something" which was from Nvidia web site & supposedly the right driver.

All other apps like Word & Web browsing are ok

This has got me beat

Re: Acer 9300 Video Problem

I have reformatted & reloaded Xp with SP2 tried windows media player then VLC both give the same results. I uninstalled the Video driver I downloaded from Acer & also NVIDIA, none made any difference, criss cross lines allover playback. I booted in safe mode & ran Vlc and it played ok? I tried another updated Nvdia driver for this lappy it loaded so far then threw a wobbler

I cant understand whats happening it will play at low res but as soon as I load the driver the problem comes back (All other displays like in word & web browser are fine)

So Im stuck atm with lo res display I thought at first it might be the onboard gu fault, Can any1 suggest a solution?

Thank You

Re: Acer 9300 Video Problem

I have tried full screen & playback on youtube its perfect

Sp2 then Sp3 still have this problem with Vlc and other media viewers

I have played backup media just incace the others were corrupt. Both play exactly the same.

Reformatted & tried Vlc with no other codecs installed

Tried Xp Codec Pack uninstalled tried K lite uninstalled & Nimo none worked

I would have said Codec conflicts but not on a clean system

Re: Acer 9300 Video Problem

When the laptop is first started while everything is cool, is issue there from the start? Just trying to establish if its a heating issue with GPU. If it is and slowly worsens as the lappy runs, then remove your bottom cover and check all your heatsinks are screwed down tight and your cooling path is free from dust and fluff.

If its not a physical problem, then Google Video Inspector. This will inspect your media files and codecs and should identify issues and give you solutions. I'm 90% sure this was the app I ran on a former lappy to sort out codec issues.

Re: Acer 9300 Video Problem

None of your temperature are high at all. They are all very cool actually.
It is not a heat issue causing this problem.
I am stumped.

Must be a faulty gpu as was stated in your thread here:
http://forum.notebookreview.com/showthread.php?t=435759

Also read this entire thread, then try what was mentioned here (if this is the same graphic card as you). The person with the problem never posted back, so we don't now if it fixed their problem.

Re: Acer 9300 Video Problem

Hi
The problem is fixed now The driver from Acer website would not work propperly nor did the supposedly correct driver from Nvidia I did a bit reading around different forums & have used a forced driver. Im still baffled as to why this is but never mind its working 100% and happy.

Thanks for the suggestions much appreciated.
