Laptop DC JACK temporary fix HELP!
Greetings. I have a problem with my DELL Inspiron 1300 laptop and the power. Actually it wont charge the battery anymore, and the laptop will not power on anymore. I have confirmed the problem is due to the DC power jack inside the laptop being loose. Now, the problem is that this year Im living in Germany, and a repair here costs 150.00.
Now as you may know, this laptop is already pretty old, and Im going to buy a new one, I dont really care about really fixing this Inspiron 1300, but I have some documents inside that I need to rescue, so one way or another I have to get that laptop to turn on and stay on for at least half an hour. Before I try soldering the jack (to disasemble the laptop an reach the jack is no problem, but im not experienced in soldering, although i know whats needed) to secure it back to the motherboard, I would like to see if anyone comes up with another idea on how to rescue whats stored in the laptop. I just need it to work temporarily, only to save the documents that are inside.... thanks for any suggestions. Last edited by charlieignacio; 11-11-2009 at 09:13 AM. |

Re: Laptop DC JACK temporary fix HELP!
Hi the only options rather than do the soldering are to try and find some one with the same laptop and borrow there batery or if you have access to a desktop take out the hard drive from the laptop put it in the desck top as a second hard drive and retrieve the data from that. Also option 3 take the hard drive out and keep it till you get your new pc Hope this helps

Re: Laptop DC JACK temporary fix HELP!
Here is the service manual that can help you installing and removing parts. You could buy a hard drive enclosure that connects via usb. The enclosures come in SATA, PATA/IDE, and combo with both SATA and PATA/IDE connections. You can check in device manager to see which hard drive you have or you can look at the hard drive when you take it out. Hard drive enclosures are relatively inexpensive and come in handy
