vista recovery process cant find my hitachi sata drive to install to

hi. im having aworldof pain with this damn laptop. for some reason when booting, it cant find the hard drive. the drive is a hitachi sata 80gb. the laptop is from Irish company iQon (now long gone). It didn't come with a recovery disk- nice - . So I've tried using the recovery disk from a Samsung
r20 laptop - same OS. It tries to reinstall vista but it stops when it gets to the point where you select a drive to install to. It can't find the hard drive. Then it tells me to install a driver to access the mass storage device. where can I get this miraculous driver? Anyone? I'm about ready to smash this thing.

Any advice would be most welcome.

Sounds like it doesn't have the proper drivers, which is expected if you're using a recovery disk from another manufacturer. You also may not be able to get your s/n number to work on that version.

thanks for thereply dogg. any ideas orsuggestions as to how to fix the problem would be helpful. What if i totally wipe the hdd anddo fresh install ofanother os, perhaps xp?
