Re: Help Pleases. Laptop keeps crashing
So it's a problem with a program or is it any program you run? If it's a specific program, which is it?

Re: Help Pleases. Laptop keeps crashing
Im usually on the internet on my laptop so at first a couple weeks ago it was firefox crashing a lot then i uninstalled and for a lil bit it stopped then it started crashing again when i use google chrome but now it just crashes period even before i have a chance to open a program sometimes. I took it to Best Buy earlier today to see if i can get a new computer but they said my 30 days is up so im stuck with this computer.
They ran a scan on it and said it has something to do with software corruption even though nothing came up in their scan to insinuate that so i dont know. I ran the diagnostics and everything passed so I dont know no more. The Best buy dude suggested I clean out the whole computer and use the recovery disc to install vista back but i dont know about that................ what to do? Also whenever it freezes and i restart and do the ChkDsk thing it has all this stuff saying "Deleting Index entry........." and "Correcting error in index........"and "Recovering orphaned file.....". Dont know what all that means but thought id mention it since it happens on startup Last edited by bugzleone; 11-11-2009 at 05:41 PM. |

Re: Help Pleases. Laptop keeps crashing
Try rebooting and holding down F8 during the startup. That should start the recovery console.

Re: Help Pleases. Laptop keeps crashing
If you run the recovery it will recover from a factory image that was placed on your hard drive so long as you have not repartitioned the drive. You might also want to thoroughly test the RAM with Memtest86. Here is the iso so you can make a bootable disk.

Re: Help Pleases. Laptop keeps crashing
Thx for all the feedback so far guys, really appreciate it.
I tried running the recovery but it said Windows cannot find no images available to restore to....... So now since i cant do it wit the F8 option, i found a site where i can download iso's of the Recovery Cd so i can burn em and use those instead for recovering my console. Is this a good idea? And if it is and since now i have Windows 7 but my computer came with Windows Vista should i dl the recovery disc fro win 7 or vista. |

Re: Help Pleases. Laptop keeps crashing
Vista + 7 should be compatible... but I don't trust M$. If you want to give linux a shot you can find the link in my signature, just keep in mind that while linux has alternatives for M$ office/internet/email it is pretty different and doesn't support many programs that M$ Windows has. A lot of games will work, but require a windows layer like WINE or Cedega.
Also, you don't need to commit to the change immediately as many distros of linux come with what are called LiveCDs. Just keep in mind to use the option that makes no changes to your o/s. The most you have to lose at this point is a blank cd/dvd so give it a shot, you might love it.

Re: Help Pleases. Laptop keeps crashing
My issue with all this is if the OS is the problem then when i switched from vista to 7, the crashing problem shouldve been fixed right. Im so lost.
Thanks for the offer but im not that savvy to where i want another OS altogether, lol just wanna stick with what am use to. So i should be able to use the windows 7 recovery disk too right? |

Re: Help Pleases. Laptop keeps crashing
Should be. It probably wouldn't hurt if the last o/s you had was 7 on there... and even if it was Vista it shouldn't really do much damage... and least no more than has already been done.
