No sound from speakers and continuous beep on boot
Alright so I have a Toshiba Tecra M2V-S310 that worked fine for a couple of years until recently. The first thing to go was the sound; to be more specific, the sound from the on-board speakers. Headphones work fine but the on-board speakers don't make a peep.
I'm fairly computer savvy so the first thing check the settings and then check the sound drivers. Everything seemed to check out. Not wanted to reinstall XP, I took apart the laptop and checked the speaker connection to some kind of microchip (thought it was the sound card at the time). Not being satisfied, I replaced the speakers themselves, other various ribbon cables around the speakers, and even that mystery chip that I thought was the sound card. Put it back together and STILL no sound from the speakers. I finally reinstalled windows, feeling confident that a fresh reinstall would solve my problems. It. Did. Not. . It's almost like the computer believes the sound to be working just fine, however I turned the speakers all the way up and I hear nothing.Another problem I'm having now that I've reinstalled, is that sometimes when I boot it up, as soon as I press the power button I sometimes hear a short beep. Sometimes I hear a long beep. Sometimes it doesn't beep. Sometimes it beeps all the way through boot process and continuous to beep non-stop. It literally doesn't stop and I can use the computer just fine, but the beeping continues. Turn it off and on a few times, I get the long or short beep and everything works fine after that. Could it still be a hardware issue (I have an entire donor computer to replace parts if so)? Or is it software? Is my sound card built onto the motherboard? Any help is appreciated. Thanks in advance, Ryan |
