OS: windows XP pro service pack 3

desktop screen hooked to laptop.u see windows XP then black screen and yellow light
i just got a laptop from my cousin and but she dropped it or something and the screen broke off and wires came out.i tried plugging it up to my desktop screen to see if it might still work.it cuts on and i see the windows XP with the little blue bars at the bottom that run across but then the screen doesnt do anything and the light just turns yellow like when u shut down ur desktop.can anyone tell me if this is repairable or what the problem is?
