Laptop Display Issue
I upgraded to Windows 7, and a day later I started having severe graphical issues. I sent it in to get fixed, they replaced the mobo and the video card, after installing windows 7 it worked for 1 day again but then started acting up again.
Both times I re-installed Vista after having the issues, and they're still persistent. Is it possible that windows 7 is actually breaking my computer? I use windows vista home, was upgrading with a clean install each time I did this to windows 7 professional. To give a little more detail about the issue, I get double displays on one monitor. For example, imagine your monitor right now but imagine it duplicated with one image on the top and a 2nd image on the bottom. It's hard to explain, but that's the best I can do without pictures. Re: Laptop Display Issue
go into your bios and reset it to default.
If that doesn't work, then try using the keyboard fn and the display button to toggle from inside display to external. If you have external monitor see if it does the same thing.

Re: Laptop Display Issue
I reset the bios and still no luck -- I can't connect it to an external monitor though. I don't have one available. Could it be a monitor display problem?
I'll be resending it to Dell this week, I'm just trying to help locate the real problem so it doesn't go unnoticed again >< |

Re: Laptop Display Issue
Did you try the button combo without using external display?

Re: Laptop Display Issue
I did and it did nothing. I was able to get it tested with an external monitor also. The laptop screen switched off and the external one switched on, however it was unsuccessful. The monitor was displaying a square blue box saying "Please check PC display settings", but the laptop monitor was off so I couldn't do anything. Also, with this issue it's as if my video card is disabled. I am unable to change resolutions.

Re: Laptop Display Issue
I don't think that windows 7 should cause that, if it was fine on the post screen than did it, I would say yes, but it looks like the vid card or mb is bad to be double display like that.

Re: Laptop Display Issue
I was afraid of that, and I appreciate all your help. The problem though is that they had just replaced the MB, and with it the video card (or so I was told -- they said it was all 1 piece). It did work for a day without any issues like I said, but now it's back as it was before. I guess the final question is, could windows 7 have actually broken my hardware?

Re: Laptop Display Issue
I wouldn't be scared of the OS, maybe the techs could not duplicate the problem and factory restored the system and that was all.
Maybe if it gets replaced "again" the problem will go away and you can try again..
