New battery, provides power, causes reboot when power cord unplugged
So I could not unplug my laptop (Gateway mx7118, Link below) without it shutting off. It was clear to me that my battery was dead.
I ordered a new battery. Its a perfect match in every detail. I plugged it in when I got it and the computer said it was fully charged. I decided to test it out. PROBLEM: When I unplugged the battery, moments later I get a blue screen which I could not read for more than 1 sec because the computer reboots. but I have power, the battery is working......... If I turn the computer on with only the battery, it gets to windows and fails to actually load windows, leaving me with a black screen, and my mouse cursor which is functional, as well as a few warnings for a few programs not able to start. FACTS: Everything works with the normal power cord in. The battery does provide power, I can boot to where windows starts but it won't start. No one seems to have experienced this problem and documented it. I searched the web for hours using loads of keyword combinations and phrases, trying to solve my problem and get the battery to work when I unplug the power cord. I did manage to get a look at the blue screen and gather some info by making the machine not reboot after a failure. I searched for a solution using the resulting information: "0x0000008e" or "bad_pool_caller" I do have an extra stick of ram in this machine giving it the max 1.5 gig. Have had it for a while and had no problems with the ram. Clearly the battery fits, its for this model, it is charged and does provide power. I gather that I am getting a kernel panic or something when the machine has to switch to battery from power cord, but I do not know how to deal with kernels at all or what they are. I could be totally wrong here...... I hope this is something silly that I didn't think of......... ![]() I am running windows xp home/Media center edition. I have updated my bios as per the gateway site. Here is the link for my computer. Can anyone help me stop this problem? Help! If there is something more you need to know to help you help me, just let me know |
