[SOLVED] Acer aspire 5720z turns off when hot
I have an acer aspire 5720z, when the laptop is plugged in for charging whilst using it, it goes into high performance mode then gets hot and switches off.
Have tried turning it down to a powersaver option which reduces performance (not ideal as everything takes ages to load), this only delays the heat build up and it still switches off. I am aware that the grills that protect the fan underneath the laptop need to be kept free from obstruction but it is even occuring when used on a flat table. Is this an indication that the thermal sensor is packing up and hence not turning on the fan? The fan appears to be running - could it need a more powerful fan - if so where can i get one? Help appreciated thanks Jeremy |

Re: Acer aspire 5720z turns off when hot
Hi Jeremy,
Try installing SpeedFan or similar and observe the temps just before it shuts off. Also try cleaning the vents and fan areas and make sure nothing blocks them.

Re: Acer aspire 5720z turns off when hot
Hi, thanks for the reply. Have downloaded and installed speed fan, whilst it shut down when getting hot again i noticed the core temp getting up to 97C just before it shut off. This seems to occur more in high performanence mode when doing complex tasks.
Although there has been a slight improvement since installing fanspeed there doesnt seem to be any change in noise coming from the fan - one would have thought it would get noisier when needed to cool more as the core gets really hot. As it is the fan just whuurrs quietly at the same speed regardless. Do i have to check/tick the box that says "automatic fan speed" ? again i ask is it a dodgy thermostat or fan controller (if there is such a thing) that is not telling the fan to run quicker - as the fan does not run any quicker when hot? thanks Jeremy |

Re: Acer aspire 5720z turns off when hot
Problem solved!!!
got fed up and took back off laptop, took out fan and watched it as programs were running - fan operated on and off in accordance with temperature band, accidentally dropped fan whilst in hand and out popped a lump of fluff!!!! installed fan and it runs fine! even though i had checked the grills i might never had found the fluff had i not taken out the fan and looked inside the baffles. All solved now - thanks to all who helped with suggestions |

Re: [SOLVED] Acer aspire 5720z turns off when hot
Jez777 you are a hero!
I had similar problems with my aspire 7520G. Some days ago I opened the back case and blowed air thouroughly. Nothing but minor improvement. Now that I read your post I opened laptop again and unscrewed the fan. Guess what! between the fan and the brush there was a thick dark brown layer of fluff! Now I am back to normal temperatures and the fan don't even need to spin most times. Thanks to you! |
