Compaq armada 7400 6366/T/10.0/V/M/1 sound woes
I seem to have a problem with a Compaq Laptop that I have been borrowed for four days. It was not booting so I installed XpSp2 along side the existing non-booting Xp sp1. After installing the Sp2, I scanned the whole notebook with updated avg8.5 and found a whole lot of virues which were effectively healed or/and moved to vault. The Sp2 installation installed everything properly except the sound. At the end of the installation two devices were not installed in device manager...it says the devices are located on "Compaq CETUS-L PCI to Internal ISA bridge". i managed to installed them "properly" with the information given under Device manager(Compaq CETUS-L PCI to Internal ISA bridge). Until there's no indication that there are devices that are not installed. The previous OS was safe to say, decomissioned for use.
However the notebook does not emit sound, only the system speaker seems to be working but no music. I could not get the sound card driver cause I do not know what kind of sound card the book uses. Driver detective did not help me either. Im unable to get the name of the sound card and furthermore to fustrate me, on the support website for the notebook, the drivers available do not include XP...it ends at win 2000. I don't know if that's because the notebook is older because it is old but it can and had ran successfully under Xp for some time until the virus issue. There's no information about the Compaq CETUS-L PCI to Internal ISA bridge on google or even pcidatabase.com to help me out here. So I'm wondering if you can aid. :) Laptop info: Compaq Armada 7400 6636/T/10.0/V/M/1 Intel Pentium II 365 Mhz 128 sdram Windows XP Sp2 Graphics: S3 ViRGE MX 4MB VRAM DirectX10 Sound: No Audio Device Installed HDD: 40 GB (Used=9.58GB...Free=27.6GB) Power: on AC Power...no battery/batteries Installed: Microsoft Net Framework 2.0 (There are other programs but I think they are not so important to mention...) I suspected the ES1688 Sound Card to be installed herein but I can't seem to get the drivers to install...this is driving me crazy. When I connect the headphones on the side jacks, the system speaker warning beeps are routed to them...but no music comes out when I play my mp3s because also the system tells me of the inability to playback any audio because no audio device is installed. I don't know... |
