Dead Aspire

Hi Guys

Wonder if you can help me revive a dead Aspire 5920.
I was running, then it wasn't, totally dead, nothing and the ac adapter charger light was flashing. Tried it on my car adapter which clicked and flashed.
Tried taking out battery and disconnecting then holding start button for more than 30 seconds. Still dead.
I am guessing that it is the motherboard, any thoughts?

Also, if it is the motherboard it would probably pay me to buy a secondhand model the same, then I would have parts. Can you tell me if I put the hard drive from mine into another Aspire the same model would it run ok?

thanks in advance for any help you can give.

Re: Dead Aspire

Hi and welcome!

Please try the following and report back with the results:
  1. Unplug the AC Adapter from the laptop
  2. Remove the battery
  3. Plug the AC Adapter into the laptop
  4. Attempt to power the laptop on
Next item to check
  1. Plug the AC Adapter into the laptop
  2. Gently "wiggle" the adapter to see if it has an "abnormal" amount of movement

Could you please provide the model number of your Aspire?

Thanks!

Re: Dead Aspire

Hi

Many thanks for your response.
Unfortunately I tried your suggestions without any success..... dead as the proverbial.... The socket seems the same as always.
Model is 6A3G16Mi

Cheers
Graham

Re: Dead Aspire

Hi and thanks for the additional information.

Since the AC Adapter is flashing this is an indicator of a short or failed circuit; most likely on either the connector or the motherboard itself.

As to your question about using your hard disk drive in a second hand model. As long as the hardware is identical it should work. Please be advised that by hardware, I don't just mean the processor or hard drive, I also mean chipsets in the system and especially the hard disk controller.

Please be sure to backup your data prior to attempting the hardware migration.

Thanks!
