[SOLVED] Power problem

I am working on a Dell Dimension E310. The light next to the battery is a constant orange color. When I press the power button, the power button blinks orange. The computer will not come on.
Does this sound like a power supply problem or a bad motherboard?
Thanks a lot.

Re: Power problem

Have you tried with the mains power supply only. It does sound like a psu issue as the color orange is not mentioned on the dell support site. The diagnostic leds should be green or yellow. If all of the lights are off then it could be either psu or cpu. Try without the battery first.

Re: Power problem

Hello,

Look for diag lights labeled A,B,C,D and note the colors.(may be on front panel)

Blinking yellow light on power button could be PSU or MB failure.

Has anything been added to the system?

Re: Power problem

Thanks a lot guys. Turns out it was the power supply.
This might be some usefull information.
I read in another forum, while waiting for your reply, that the flashing orange or amber light could be caused by the usb ports on the front panel. The pins were bent over touching the metal frame surrounding it. Apparently this messed up that portion of the psu.
Thanks again.
