Hi everyone my first time here..and am I impressed !!!! Never knew such a forum existed !!! Here is my problem ...while removing programs that I no longer used I inadvertently removed one thats says....SMSC IrCC V5.1 3600.5 sp2....My laptop is a toshiba satellite model m105-s3041. I gather from google searches that this is an infrared driver of sorts.. Now ,I wonder if this could be the reason why my cds and videos sound funny ,like trembling /crackling. Music played from my harddrive with windows media sound fine. I appreciate any insight to these problems which may or may not be related. Where can I retrieve this driver ? I tried restoring but no luck...I guess it is gone !!!..Thanks.:

Re: Inadvertently removed infrared driver from laptop
Hi,
AFAIK... IR (infrared) drivers when removed from computer SHOULD NOT affect other devices such as CD/DVD drives. Although (of course) it will render your IR device dead. If you want to download (and install) the IR driver alone, try TOSHIBA website or support webpage specifically for your model.

Re: Inadvertently removed infrared driver from laptop
Thanks.., so , I understand...is that how cds and videos are read in the cd-rom using infrared ? Perhaps my cd-rom is bad and coincided with the IR driver removal ? i will see if I can get back the driver from toshiba , in the meantime I welcome all thoughts...Thanks

Re: Inadvertently removed infrared driver from laptop
Thanks for pointing me in the right direction .I went to Toshibas support site and reinstalled the infrared driver.HOWEVER , like you mentioned, it did not fix my problem so I guess they are unrelated. There isnt any skipping of the sound , I hear some ticking noise as well as a warbling sound as if there is a short echo..I guess i will dig deeper...as I mention anything played from the harddrive is ok...Thanks again

Re: Inadvertently removed infrared driver from laptop
Yes, they are unrelated. CD/DVD drives use laser not infrared. I am not so sure what exactly could be the problem but try cleaning the CD/DVD lens, also (I believe you have done this) check media/discs are free of any scratches or may be dust deposits.
