Re: hp pavilion entertainment dv 9000 won't power up

Hi and welcome!

Just for clarification nothing on the laptop powers up at all? No fans, no LEDs, no lights? I just wanted to make sure that I didn't misunderstand your description.

Have you verified the following: (some may seem obvious, but please verify them)
  1. AC Adapter is plugged in to a known good power source; if it is plugged into a surge protector please bypass the surge protector and plug it directly into a known, good working wall outlet for testing purposes.
  2. AC Adapter's green light is lit when plugged in (not all DV9000 series have the green light on the adapter)
  3. AC Adapter is plugged into the laptop; please gently move the plug in a circular motion to see if it feels "abnormally" loose; you are checking to see if the AC Adapter plug/pin on the laptop is broken.
After you have verified all of the above please do the following:
  1. Unplug your AC adapter from the laptop
  2. Remove your battery from the laptop
  3. Plug your AC adapter back into the laptop
  4. Power the laptop on to see if it will power on with the battery removed.

Could you please provide the full model number of your laptop? HP made a lot of different DV9000 series laptops. However, they also made a DV9000 too.

Thank you very much!

I'm having this same problem. I have checked your list above and also used a voltage tester to verify the wall outlet and the power adapter.

Re: hp pavilion entertainment dv 9000 won't power up

Try removing the cd/dvd drive, hard drive, anything connected to it extenally and remove the memory, remove the battery. Plug it into the wall and hold down the power button for 10 sec. Do you get a post beep. If so try one stick of memory at time in one slot at a time. If successfull then put in your devices back in one at a time. Is the green light on at all times on the a/c adapter?
