Hi,
I have a dell C640 note book, from last few months it has a problem of ram failure, i used to add some foam strips in the back cover of it to press it tightly and it works fine. Last week when i turned it on the ram failure indication appeared, i tried all the conventional means to fix it but didnt worked. i applied some thinner on the slots and rams to clear carbon from it. ultimately the ram worked but the display has gone. the processor works and windows load but there is not display. My friend has note book of same model, so I tested my graphics card and LCD over that notebook and both worked fine but they are not working on my notebook. Similarly the video card and lcd of the other notebook didnt worked on mine, I cant figure out that what is the actual problem that is causing display failure. I have exams in coming days and all my data is saved on my notebook. I will be very very much obliged if some one can advice me or suggest me some thing useful to troubleshoot this issue ASAP.

Re: DELL C640 display problem
So sorry to say this but it looks to me you have a failing motherboard. Try hooking up an external monitor. Also test your RAM sticks in your friends laptop. If RAM sticks are tested OK then may there is a problem with the RAM slots (which I am afraid is part of the motherboard).

Re: DELL C640 display problem
If you have a spare, try with a known working motherboard.
