How to increase speed???

My computer knowledge is moderate at best. I am purchasing a new Dell laptop, and I can either upgrade the processor or ram memory. Now the included processor is the Intel Core i7, 720 QM, 1.6GHz, (2.8 GHz in Turbo Mode, 6 MB cache. I can upgrade to one with 820 QM, 1.73GHz, (3.06GHz in Turbo Mode, 8 MB cache) for $350. The included ram is 4 GB shared dual channel DDR3 @1066MHz, and I can upgrade to 6GB for $265 (or 6GB @1333MHz for $365).

My budget is limited so that I can only upgrade one. I will use this computer mostly for multimedia uses and multitasking. There won't be a whole lot of gaming, although I may want to do some video editing. Any advice would be appreciated. My mentality now is that it is probably easier to upgrade the ram memory than the processor, so I could have some added in the future... although I have no idea how to do so in a laptop.
