Laptop recovery disc does not work.

I want to use the recovery disc that came with my Toshiba A105-2716 laptop to restore my HD to factory specs. I have followed the stated instructions by pressing the "C" key at boot up with the RD in the DVD drive.
The only thing I get is : Checking boot CD rom, Loading RAMDISK image, and then I am presented with the option to install RAID software (f6 key), lastly, PLEASE WAIT. After this, either boots normally or the entire process starts again.
Here's what I've tried. Changing boot order to DVD first--doesn't work.
Accessing the installation process from Windows through Windows Explore--doesn't work. Make exact copy of Recovery Disc and use that--doesn't work. Pressing f12 key as recommended on Toshiba website--does not work.
I've got a separate XP upgrade disc, but it's registered on another computer so if I use it to format my disc and then install, registering the copy will not be permitted.
Any suggestions?

Re: Laptop recovery disc does not work.

A damaged CD can cause strange effects, sometimes the CD/DVD player reports the error in other cases it just hangs on a section.

It can help to polish the CD with special paste for this purpose. I rescued one disk like that and managed to copy it before it died.
Also cooling the CD in the freezer might help for a few minutes, just enough to get through a bad track.

In case you need a quick workaround to get your lappy going for simple internet access, try a free alternative OS.

There is nothing wrong with the DVD drive or the disc (I made the Recovery Disc copy with the DVD drive--it reads and writes perfectly).
The RD is brand-new, never been used and is free from scratches.
Any other suggestions?
